La fría luna de nieve nos recuerda que
para ti, ya no mecedoras ni atardeceres,
cigarras ni cucarachas, ni las biblias maltrechas
de los nacionalistas cristianos que intentan
justificar tu asesinato en nombre de Dios.
¿Con qué regla para reducir las cosas, dura
y astillado, se podrán los crímenes de fascistas
medirse y llevarlos ante la justicia?
El arroyo de tu alma no era insignificante,
ni tu fe voluble, ni tu amor.
Por ellos fuiste martirizada, asesinada
por los matones uniformados y enmascarados
del imperio podrido por el odio y el miedo,
un patriotismo tóxico envuelto en bandera garrienta
que alza una cruz como un garrote de guerra
para imponer el derecho de la fuerza bruta y la codicia.
Por la luna, no nos quedaremos miedosos
y acobardados como ellos demandan,
sino que aullando como coyotes a la luna de nieve
alzaremos nuestras voces en tu nombre
y no seremos condenados por nuestro silencio.

The cold snow moon reminds us that
for you, no more rocking chairs or sunsets,
cicadas or cockroaches, or the mashed
bibles of Christian Nationalists who try
to justify your murder in the name of god.
By what ruler to reduce things, hard-edged
& splintering, can the crimes of fascists
be measured and brought to justice?
The brook of your soul was by no means
piddly nor your faith fickle nor your love.
For them you were martyred, shot
by the uniformed, masked thugs
of the empire grown rotten with hate & fear,
a toxic patriotism clothed in a ragged flag
and swinging a cross like a war club
to impose the right of crude might & of greed.
By the moon, we will not stand by cowed
and cowering as they demand of us to be,
but howling like coyotes at the snow moon
we will raise our voices in your name
and by our silence not be damned.

Shorty after 37 year old Renée Nicole Good was murdered by ICE agents on January 7, on January 24, 37 year old Alex Jeffrey Pretti, a nurse at the U.S. Veterans Hospital Minneapolis was murdered by agents of the U.S. Border Patrol (the hated “Migra” founded in 1924 originally recruited from the Texas Rangers which functioned as a vigilante group guilty of lynching Mexicans, especially notorious in the period known as “La Matanza”).
Good and Pretti, both U.S. citizens, were murdered attempting to record the fascist state terrorism of ICE and the Border Patrol and protect folks from it. Patriots in the best sense of the word, Alex Jeffrey Pretti’s salute for one of his dead veteran patients holds as true for Pretti and Good:
“Today we remember that freedom is not free. We have to work at it, nurture it, protect it, and even sacrifice for it. May we never forget and always remember our brothers and sisters who have served so that we may enjoy the gift of freedom. So in this moment, we remember and give thanks for their dedication and selfless service to our nation in the cause of our freedom. In this solemn hour, we [give] them our honor, and our gratitude.”

Poco después del asesinato de Renée Nicole Good, de 37 años, a manos de agentes del ICE el 7 de enero, el 24 de enero, Alex Jeffrey Pretti, también de 37 años y enfermero en el Hospital de Veteranos de Minneapolis, fue asesinado por agentes del U.S. Border Patrol (la odiada "Migra", fundada en 1924 y cuyos primeros miembros eran de los Texas Rangers, un grupo paramilitar responsable de linchamientos de mexicanos, especialmente notorio durante el período conocido como "La Matanza").
Good y Pretti, ambos ciudadanos estadounidenses, fueron asesinados mientras intentaban documentar el terrorismo estatal del ICE y del U.S. Border Patrol y proteger a las personas de sus abusos. Patriotas en el mejor sentido de la palabra, el homenaje que Alex Jeffrey Pretti dedicó a uno de sus pacientes veteranos fallecidos es igualmente válido para Pretti y Good:
“Hoy recordamos que la libertad no es gratuita. Debemos trabajar por ella, cultivarla, protegerla e incluso sacrificarnos por ella. Que nunca olvidemos y siempre recordemos a nuestros hermanos y hermanas que han servido para que podamos disfrutar del don de la libertad. En este momento, recordamos y agradecemos su dedicación y servicio desinteresado a nuestra nación en la causa de nuestra libertad. En esta hora solemne, les rendimos nuestro honor y nuestra gratitud”.
