All Souls Day

                       Credo


Ni disfraz ni máscara engaña
a los espíritus malignos 
ni mucho menos 
a nuestros muertos queridos 
que nos visitan 
en recuerdo y sueño. 
Sólo ahí viven. 
No creo en la gloria 
ni en el infierno o purgatorio,
o limbo o nirvana.
No hay muerto agradecido;
la gratitud es sólo para los vivos
que con su último suspiro 
dan gracias por haber vivido.

No disguise or mask can fool
the malignant spirits 
and much less 
our beloved dead
who visit us 
in remembrance & dream. 
It is only there they live. 
I do not believe in heaven 
nor in hell or purgatory,
or limbo or nirvana.
There are no grateful dead;
gratitude is only for the living
who with their final sigh 
give thanks for having lived.
