Sencillo rezo a la luna


Dulce luna, cose 
con tus hilos 
plateados de luz 
las hondas, oscuras 
heridas del corazón
no sea que se infecten 
con oído de aquellos 
cuyos corazones 
se han hecho de hielo.

Simple Prayer to the Moon

Gentle moon, sew
with your silver 
threads of light
the deep, dark 
wounds of the heart
lest they fester 
with hate of those 
whose hearts 
have turned to ice.

The fascists who govern us are cruel, cause unspeakable suffering, and make themselves hateful. I feel myself being drawn into the vortex of hatred and need to be mindful that resistance to hatred must be grounded in love, a fierce love, of the Earth and the life she bears, love of each other, of justice, of peace. Forty-two years ago, in prison for civil disobedience protesting the testing of the MX nuclear missile, I wrote my declaration: Here for Life. I reiterate it.

We must recall the eternal teachings of all the great teachers of the world and, for our times, review the work of Gene Sharp on nonviolent resistance to tyranny and the work of my dear friend Ken Butigan with Pace e Bene for guides to nonviolent direct action to resist the fascists that embitter our lives.

Let us gaze at the moon, renew our awe of creation, and commit ourselves to resist the forces of cruelty, injustice, and hate with firm resolve in our love and our joy.

Los fascistas que nos gobiernan son crueles, causan un sufrimiento inmenso, y se hacen odiosos. Me siento arrastrado a la vorágine del odio y debo ser consciente de que la resistencia al odio debe basarse en el amor, un amor feroz, por la Tierra y la vida que ella engendra, el amor mutuo, la justicia y la paz. Hace cuarenta y dos años, en prisión por desobediencia civil en protesta contra las pruebas del misil nuclear MX, escribí mi declaración: Aquí por la Vida. La recalco.

Debemos recordar las enseñanzas eternas de todes les grandes maestres del mundo y, para nuestros tiempos, revisar la obra de Gene Sharp sobre la resistencia no violenta a la tiranía y la obra de mi querido amigo Ken Butigan con Pace e Bene, para guías de acción directa no violenta contra los fascistas que nos amargan la vida.

Contemplemos la luna, renovemos nuestro asombro por la creación y comprometámonos a resistir las fuerzas de la crueldad, la injusticia y el odio con firme resolución en nuestro amor y nuestra alegría.
