Luna llena el Día de Nagasaki

Esta noche de verano, la luna preñada de luz en mi ventana no me deja dormir. En mi insomnio, imagino un vuelo de grullas de papel origami cruzar su faz. Esta noche hace 80 años, noche de luna nueva, oscura, la insigne ciudad de Nagasaki quedaba en ruinas y muerte e indecible sufrimiento, sus templos hechos polvo. Esa mañana, una bomba atómica llamada “hombre gordo” la había hecho un infierno, una llamarada en forma de hongo la había cubierto de muerte. Tres días antes, lo mismo había pasado con la hermana ciudad de Hiroshima. Hasta ahora, 80 años después, la amenaza de ese hongo de lumbre, enorme y nefasto, nos infecta los sueños, nos aterroriza la vida. Para pesadilla, no es necesario dormir.

Full Moon on Nagasaki Day 

This summer night, the moon full of light in my window does not let me sleep. In my insomnia, I imagine a flight of origami paper cranes cross its face. This night 80 years ago, night of a new moon, dark, the illustrious city of Nagasaki lay in ruins and death and unspeakable suffering, its temples made dust. That morning, an atomic bomb called “fat man” had made it a hell, a blaze in the shape of a mushroom had covered it in death. Three days before, the same had happened to the sister city of Hiroshima. To this day, 80 years after, the threat of that mushroom of fire, evil and huge, infects our dreams, terrorizes our lives. For a nightmare, it is not necessary to sleep.

We should be terrified at the threat of nuclear war what with a mad fascist in power with imperialist intent, with his finger on the mightiest nuclear arsenal on Earth, and already inciting war with an attack on Iran and sending nuclear submarines near Russian waters. And worse with AI's virtual finger on the button, virtual monster without human feeling. What are we doing about it? This fatal threat is generally ignored and it is up to us to raise consciousness and foment opposition. Our very existence is at stake.   The World Council of Churches has called for a Nuclear Prayer Day but only prayer with action can save us.

Debíamos de estar aterrorizados por la amenaza de una guerra nuclear con un fascista desquiciado en el poder, con intenciones imperialistas, con el dedo en el arsenal nuclear más poderoso de la Tierra y ya incitando a la guerra con un ataque a Irán y mandando submarinos nucleares cerca de aguas Rusas. Y peor aún, con el dedo virtual de la IA, monstruo virtual sin sentido humano. ¿Qué estamos haciendo para evitarlo?   Generalmente, se ignora esta fatal amenaza y depende de nosotros levantar consciencia y fomentar oposición. Nuestra propia existencia está en riesgo. El Consejo Mundial de Iglesias ha convocado un Día de Oración Nuclear, pero solo la oración con acción podrá salvarnos.
