La
luna llena encinta de luz
acompaña
al año nuevo
e
invoca al señor cabeza de elefante
a que
como pueda baile abajo
los
obstáculos con que el año comienza.
La
locura del odio, la crueldad, la codicia,
la
ignorancia arrogante y el temor
tienen
en mano las riendas de imperio,
tienen
en esclavitud al mundo
y
ponen a la Tierra en riesgo.
Que
nuestra resistencia y resiliencia sean
los
pies del señor danzante
que
con el poder de nuestro amar
y de
nuestro goce violado
hagamos
limpio el camino a sanar
y con
nuestro firme empeño
hagamos
lo mejor del año nuevo.

No mono tonto
tratando
de agarrar la luna
en la
profundidad de una noria
ni
poeta borracho ahogándose
para
abrazarla en un río,
menos
tonto y más sobrio,
la
capto en un plato hondo de agua
y la
tengo por tanto que lo permita.
Floto
unas flores para despedir al año
que
empezó y acabó mal
y me
pregunto como el año nuevo
que
promete poco mejor
se
revelará.
Que el
señor de los comienzos
acompañe nuestro baile de resistencia
y abra
el camino a un mundo más justo,
más
pacífico y a una Tierra en sanar.

The full moon pregnant with
light
ushers in the new year
and invokes the
elephant-headed lord
to dance away as he may
the obstacles with which the
year begins.
The madness of hate, cruelty,
and greed,
arrogant ignorance and fear
have in hand the reins of
empire,
hold the world in thrall,
and put the Earth at risk.
Let our resistance and
resilience be
the feet of the dancing lord
that with the power of our
love
and of our joy outraged
we may clear the way to
healing
and with our firm resolve
make the best of the new year.

No foolish monkey
trying to grab the moon
in the depths of a well
nor drunk poet drowning
to embrace her in a river,
less foolish and more sober,
I catch her in a bowl of water
and hold her for as long as
she permits.
I float a few flowers to close
the year
that began and ended badly
and wonder how the new year,
which promises little better,
will unfold.
May the lord of beginnings
join us in our dance of
resistance
and clear the way for a more
just,
more peaceful world, and a
healing Earth.
