an invitation

Many times I find it hard to get out of bed, pull the blanket over my head, wish to sleep more though troubled it may be, dreading the morning news with the latest calamity of climate change, the genocide and starvation, the threat of nuclear war, patriarchal religions’ denying women the right over their own bodies, the menace of fascism throughout the world — a nightmare of cruelty and ugliness to wake to. 

                    Where in ourselves will we find
                    the eye of the storm, the live stillness 
                    from which to be, from which to act? 

The Four Winds Journal, summer 2014, explores ways. Perhaps celebrate that which brings joy? Speak words of praise and hope, of truth? Create more beauty in the world?

Muchas veces me es difícil levantarme de la cama, me tapo la cabeza con la cobija, deseo dormir más, temiendo las noticias de la mañana con la última calamidad del cambio climático, el genocidio y el hambre, la amenaza de guerra nuclear, las religiones patriarcales que niegan a las mujeres el derecho sobre sus propios cuerpos, la amenaza del fascismo en todo el mundo — una pesadilla de crueldad y fealdad ante la cual despertar. 

                    ¿donde en nosotros encontraremos 
                    el ojo de la tormenta, la quietud viva 
                    de donde estar y actuar?
