Los antiguos chinos decían
que el dragón celeste se tragaba el sol
inmensa perla de fuego;
golpeaban tambores y caserolas
para espantarlo.
Los antiguos Mechicas decían
que el jaguar de la noche se lo tragaba;
para espantarlo gritaban y chillaban.
Cosas malas podrían suceder;
el rey podría morir, el mundo acabar.
Hoy, el astrólogo dice,
Quirón, el sanador herido,
está unido al minuto.
No es la oscuridad del sol
que debemos temer,
sino la oscuridad en el corazón.
Guerras enfurecen, genocidio, hambre;
los bosques arden, se derriten los glaciales.
Tenemos que sanar las heridas que podamos
y aprender a vivir con las otras.

The ancient Chinese said
that the sky dragon swallowed the sun
immense fire pearl;
they banged drums & pots
to scare it away.
The ancient Mechicas said
that the night jaguar swallowed it;
to scare it away, they yelled & screamed.
Bad things could happen;
the king might die, the world end.
Today, the astrologer says,
Chiron, the wounded healer,
is conjoined to the minute.
It is not the dark of the sun
we must fear,
but the dark in the heart.
Wars rage, genocide, hunger;
the forests burn, the glaciers melt.
We must heal the wounds we can,
and learn to live with the others.
