Sempre Caro Amico

On a day of the full moon
news reached me
that my old revolutionary
poet laureate friend
of nearly fifty years
has left for the realm
of the ancestors.
The poet-warrior leaves
a hole no words can fill,
not even the horde
of words of his arcana,
major and minor and
between. Caro, he always
addressed me and signed
off, sempre. Yes, always
sempre, sempre caro amico mio.

Un día de luna llena
me llegó noticia
de que mi viejo amigo
revolucionario poeta laureado
de casi cincuenta años
se ha ido al reino
de los ancestros.
El poeta guerrero deja
un hoyo que palabras
no pueden llenar,
ni aun la horda
de palabras de su arcana,
mayor y menor
y mediana. Caro, siempre
me dirigió y se firmó
sempre. Sí, siempre
sempre, sempre caro amico mio.
