        Baila Quilticoyotzin

Baila Quilticoyotzin
con Huehuecoyotl
aunque las cuatro banderas
y las diez cuentas de barro,
de obsidiana, de pedernal,
de oro y de piedra verde
le pesen, menea el rabo
ya no tan verde y alza
la quinta copa para brindar
a la vida de tantos, tantos
amores que le ha dado tanto
de alegría y de llanto.

Quilticoyotzin Dances
with Huehuecoyotl
though the four flags
& the ten beads of clay,
of obsidian, of flint,
of gold and of greenstone 
weigh on him, wags his tail
now not as green and raises
the fifth cup to toast
life of so many, so many
loves that has given so much
of joy and of sorrow.
